Why Greek Life?

Greek Facts

Brotherhood

When becoming a member of a fraternity, you become a member of a second family. A group of people are found who will share the joys and frustrations of your college experience, creating a bond that will last long after graduation. A greek organization does not just mean wearing Greek letters, attending meetings, or going to social events. Rather it becomes a place to turn for encouragement and belonging. It is being a part of a group that allows you to be your own individual, and more importantly, care for you because of it. Brotherhood and sisterhood create bonds that will last a lifetime.

Scholarship

Greek organizations make scholarship a first priority. Through various incentive programs, such as the Scholarship Banquet, study buddies and individual chapter awards, members are motivated to excel academically. Chapter faculty advisors make themselves easily accessible for questions ranging from history to physics. Academics success and leadership in the campus community pave the way for membership in Order of Omega, a national Greek Honor Society. The Greek community's grade point averages exceed the all men's and women's undergraduate grade point averages.

Community Service

A primary focus of the Greek community involves a charity. Continuously giving back to the community, fraternities and sororities have raised thousands of dollars and given countless hours of their time to benefit the surrounding community. Chapter service projects have benefited organizations such as Arthritis Research, Make a Wish Foundation, the Hero Campaign, Special Olympics, St. Jude's Hospital, American Heart Association, Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity, American Cancer Society and the Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

Social

Social activities provide an opportunity for fraternity and sorority members to bond in an enjoyable and relaxed environment. After the daily routines of class and school work, Greek members are able to unwind through a variety of activities that are only provided by Greek organizations. Though they are not mandatory, Greek social events contribute to the primary source of lasting friendships with various fraternity and sorority members. Greek social activities include Greek Week, Homecoming week, Formals, Date Parties, Semi-formals, Barbeques, retreats, intramural sports and chapter dinners.

                 - We'll be grillin' burgers, dogs, and all of your BBQ essentials @ the house.  So mosey on down to 13 Frat Row to eat some food and watch the Terps dismantle Middle Tennessee St. on our BIG screen
Sunday:  Pig Roast @ 4PM
                 - This is an all day event, we'll be roastn' a 75lbs. pig for everyone to enjoy, there will also be sports, cornhole, and house tours going on all day. This is a can't miss extravaganza

Phi Psi Recruitment Schedule

9/4- IFC Kickoff Event- 5-7pm. This is the official start of Rush
Week. Come to McKeldin Mall and meet some of the brothers and learn
about the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity (free pizza).
9/5- Wii and Chinese- 6-8 pm. To formally kick off our Rush Week, Phi
Psi will be hosting Wii, Chinese Food, and Root Beer Pong at 7506
Dickinson Avenue.
9/6- Go Terps Night!- 7-9 pm. Come watch our Terps Football team play
at Middle Tennessee State on our 42-inch flatscreen at 7506 Dickinson
Ave. We'll be ordering pizza for the game.
9/8- Cabo in College Park- 5-7pm- In honor of our annual Spring Break
Trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, the brothers of Phi Psi bring you a
taste of Cabo in the form of non-alcoholic margaritas with volleyball,
soccer, and tossing the frisbee or football around at La Plata Beach
accompanied by grilling back at our place.
9/9- Turtle Night- 6-8pm- Come sample the College Park night life at
the Thirsty Turtle, the newest bar downtown. Join the brothers of Phi
Psi for appetizers and an open-soda bar.
9/10- Pizza and Cigars- 6-8pm- At our signature event, enjoy a classy
cigar paired with pizza with the brothers and some of our alumni and
hear about the many benefits of being a Phi Psi.
9/11- Men of Excellence Night- This event is by invitation only,
please attend rush events earlier in the week to receive an invitation
to this esteemed event.
